Chrome diopside is mined in Siberia, Russia. This area is so cold that it can only be mined in the summertime (and it is still freezing). Diopside is an indicator for diamonds, so when people find diopside, they are hopeful they will find diamonds nearby. The chrome diopside is such a beautiful green due to the chromium impurity within the diopside mineral. As with most color gemstones, it is an impurity that gives it color and beauty.
